The abortion ban decision of the US Supreme Court caused great reactions and this decision was annulled. Many companies such as Netflix, Tesla and Google have announced that they will provide abortion support to their employees. Stating that it stands by its employees on this issue, Google has taken various steps.
In the past weeks, Google has announced that it will remove location history data in locations described as ‘personal’, such as counseling centers, abortion clinics, addiction treatment facilities. After this step, which was taken to prevent people traveling to different places for abortion from being tracked, Google took another step in abortion.
Medical facilities providing abortion services will be visible on Google Maps
Google has announced that it will make it possible to find medical facilities that provide abortion services in the USA easily through Google Searches and Google Maps. The company said in a statement that if a healthcare provider receives official approval to provide abortion services, the organization will read “Provides abortion services” on its label. Organizations that are not approved will have the label “May not provide abortion services”.
With this application, the giant company aims to prevent confusion between clinics that provide and do not provide abortion services, and to ensure that users can easily find places that provide service via Google Maps when they search for “abortion clinics near me”.
The company wants to do the same with its abortion service, as do the first local results that come up when you search for a specific COVID vaccine center or EV charging facility. Currently only available in certain regions in the US, these labels are planned to be used in more locations and facilities in the future.
