In recent years, two German auto giants Porsche and Audi have been on the agenda frequently with the claim that they will participate in Formula 1, the pinnacle of motorsports. While Porsche has announced that it will participate in Formula 1 in the past months, Audi has also been in the news in recent weeks with some developments pointing to this. The much-anticipated announcement finally arrived today.
Audi officially announced its entry into Formula 1 with its social media account. The company, which included the slogan “Future Is An Attitude”, also included a Formula 1 vehicle in the post it shared. Audi’s green light for F1 has been finalized with the news shared by Formula 1.
Audi’s introduction to Formula 1:
“More people are coming. Watch this space…”
Audi also made an important statement about the vehicle it included in its sharing. The company announced that the Formula 1 vehicle seen in the photo is a concept and shared that it has not been produced yet.
So, what role will Audi play in Formula 1?
Like Porsche, Audi, which is part of Volkswagen AG, will not produce vehicles in Formula 1 in the same way as its sister brand, nor will it be a separate team. The company will be the power unit supplier for Formula 1 vehicles only. In other words, the company will make an agreement with a Formula 1 team and play a role especially in the engine part for the vehicles of this team. Audi has not yet shared which team this team will be.
When will we see Audi on the Formula 1 field?
Audi will start playing its role in Formula 1 with the 2026 season. With the 2026 season, Formula 1 will host many regulations, especially in the engine department. In the new season, the V6 internal combustion engine architecture will be preserved, while the power obtained from the electric motors will increase. The fuel to be used in the vehicles will be 100% sustainable fuel.
