Samsung’s highly anticipated new flagship SSD model, the Samsung 990 PRO SSD, was introduced. Contrary to expectations, the drive using the PCIe 4.0 standard still claims to be the fastest in its class.
Samsung 990 PRO SSD features and price
The Samsung 990 PRO SSD drive reaches 7450MB/s read speeds and 6900MB/s writes speeds. In the previous generation, these figures were 7000MB/s and 5000MB/s. In other words, there is a significant increase, especially on the writing side.
Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 SSD driver introduced
The random performance is 1400K IOPS in read and 1550K IOPS in write. Thus, it is an important support in games and professional works. The map loading time in Forspoken is only 1 second.
Samsung’s new controller is 50 percent more energy efficient than the previous generation. For each capacity, LPDDR4 buffer memory has been added as GB as its capacity. The total write life is determined as 600TB-1200TB-2400TB.
The Samsung 990 PRO SSD model will be sold in October for 1TB capacity for $179 and 2TB for $309. Next year, 4TB capacity will be launched. There is also a version with a thermal layer with RGB lighting, but it is not specified whether this will be a price difference.
