Perstev’s arrest caused a great deal of confusion among the crypto and web3 community.

Tornado Cash Developer Will Remain in Jail

A Dutch judge has ruled that Alexey Pertsev, accused of facilitating money laundering through Tornado Cash, should remain in jail for at least another 90 days.

Pertsev, 29, was arrested on 10 August on orders from Dutch authorities following the US Treasury Department’s sanctions on Tornado Cash. Pertsev allegedly assisted North Korean hackers with money laundering.

The arrest came as a huge shock to the crypto industry. According to many prominent names, this could hit open source code developers hard.

Appearing before a judge on August 12, Pertsev and his lawyers were denied bail.

Recently, software developers held a demonstration in Amsterdam to protest Pertsev’s arrest.

A Dutch judge has set a 90-day deadline for the first hearing to take place. Pertsev is still not formally charged.

In a statement made the other day, US Congressman Tom Emmer requested information from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen regarding the Tornado Cash sanctions.
