AirPower, the wireless charger that Apple introduced with the iPhone X, was expected to go on sale in 2018. However, no matter what happened, AirPower, which could charge iPhone, Apple Watch or AirPods at the same time, suddenly disappeared. The persistent unanswered questions about AirPower during Apple’s launches showed that there were serious problems in the development process of the device.
The prototype of AirPower, which was treated as a stepchild by Apple and was asked whether it will be released this time by filing a patent application in 2019, but announced that Apple officially gave up because it could not meet the quality standards in the same year, was examined in detail by a YouTube channel. Let’s take a look at AirPower’s review video together.
This is the first time AirPower has been studied in such detail.
AirPower was designed so that users could place an iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch on any part of the mat to charge the device. Unlike other wireless chargers, AirPower, which can charge multiple devices at the same time, was designed so that an iPhone charging on it could also display the charging status of other devices placed on the pad.
Videos and images of the AirPower prototype were shared on other YouTube channels before, but the video shared by 91Tech was the most detailed AirPower video ever. One of the most striking points of the video is that the AirPower prototype is revealed in all its details and nakedness.
AirPower failed to start
While the prototype is not functional in the traditional sense, the video-sharing channel was able to connect to the device via the Terminal on the Mac, but errors during AirPower’s initial launch indicate that the device has never been calibrated and possibly never used. After removing the part on AirPower, we can see that AirPower has 22 coils.
The person shooting the video tries to operate the device, but is unsuccessful in this regard. Then he takes a different Apple device and tries to run it again. The device, which has no prototype after 2017, does not work in any way, but it is understood that it was developed in 2017 or earlier.
For years, it has been wondered whether Apple will switch to Type-C or fully wireless charging. It is also claimed that Apple, which has taken important steps on Type C, is still working on charging solutions like AirPower.
