China aims to make more than 15 percent of the country’s population scientifically literate by 2025, within the framework of a new national plan to promote science and technology.

The plan, released on Tuesday, shows a target of 5 percentage points higher for 2025 compared to 2020. The proportion of scientifically literate Chinese citizens reached 10.56 percent in 2020, exceeding the country’s 10 percent target for the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020).
