MemTest86, which is used to detect defective or corrupted RAM memories in the system, increases its functionality with its new version. While the name behind the software says that the memory testing tool has entered a new era, it is underlined that bad RAM detection is now easier.
In the new version of MemTest86, it will no longer be determined which memory module is faulty, but also which memory chip is faulty. However, it is reported that most existing systems cannot use these capabilities.
Only DDR5 memory is supported
As can be seen from the image, it is now possible to see which memory block was affected by the error in the new version. While it is important to visualize the error, there are some restrictions for the new ability to work. This feature, which currently only works on dual-channel DDR5 systems, works with 12th Gen Intel processors and Z690 motherboards. However, platforms with new generation Intel and AMD processors that will be released this year will be able to use this feature.
How fast is DDR6?
There is no clear release date for the new version of MemTest86, which has not received any updates since the beginning of the year, but the software, which will be directly upgraded to the V10 version, is expected to be released in a few weeks. It looks like DDR4 RAMs probably won’t be compatible either when the release comes out.
