TikTok is the leader, Facebook is losing users

Pew Research Center in the USA; conducted a research on youth, technology and social media use. Accordingly, while the internet usage rate of the Z generation is increasing, it is seen that the interest in some social media platforms is decreasing in the new generation.

According to the published report, it is revealed that only 32 percent of young people between the ages of 13-17 use Facebook. In the research conducted in 2014-2015, this rate was calculated as 71 percent. With this report, it is possible to say that the popularity of Facebook has decreased rapidly.

On the other hand, it is stated that the number of young users in the Facebook application has decreased by 13 percent since 2019. In the coming years, this rate is expected to increase up to 45 percent. There was no significant increase in the number of Facebook users during this period. The decline in the company’s revenues also proves this situation.

Although young people are bored with Facebook, another Meta platform, Instagram, is still popular. The rate of young users, which was calculated as 52 percent in 2014-2015, has increased to 62 percent in 2022. Snapchat usage rate among teenagers is 59 percent. On the other hand, Twitter does not seem to appeal to young users with its 23 percent usage rate.

TikTok usage rate, which is quite new compared to other platforms, was announced as 67 percent in the USA. TikTok is much more prominent than Instagram and Snapchat. This report also explains why competitors want to bring TikTok features to their platforms.
