In this period, where video cards are becoming increasingly important for systems, power supplies that can feed them correctly are also critical. The MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIE5 power supply developed in this context is fully compatible with the world’s first ATX 3.0 and PCIe 5.0 standards. Before buying a future-proof power supply, it is necessary to take a quick look at what the new standard ATX 3.0 is.

What is ATX 3.0?

ATX 3.0 is a new standard developed for Intel’s increasing power needs of graphics cards. The main purpose of ATX 3.0 is to provide more security and better power efficiency. With this new standard, compliance power supplies will include a 12+4 pin connector called 12VHPWR (also known as PCIe 5.0 connector). Through this connection option, power supplies will be able to provide up to 600W of power to graphics cards.

Important for future graphics cards

Power supplies currently on the market do not fully support ATX 3.0. Most PSUs have three or four 8-pin PCIe connectors that require a separate adapter for PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR compatibility. This is often a difficult task for the end consumer. MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIE5, on the other hand, comes with an internal connector, which can be a channel of choice for users who want to set up a new system or upgrade. Meanwhile, MEG Ai-P series power supplies will come in two models: Ai1300P (1300W) and Ai1000P (1000W).

The new ATX 3.0 power supplies can handle power spikes caused by the graphics card (the GPU demanding large milliseconds of power over the existing connection). Older power supplies were causing problems such as shutting down the system in similar situations. MSI MEG Ai, these sudden deviations in the power supply can be tolerated up to 3 times. That is, power deviations up to 1800W can be removed via the 16-pin connector.

It is possible for users to monitor the detailed electrical behavior of the power supply with the Gamer Intelligence application. Besides, it is possible to monitor values such as fan speed. MSI has not yet shared a clear release date and price information for the high-end MEG Ai1300P, but it will enter the market in parallel with the new generation RTX 40 and RX 7000 cards.
