Spotify is changing the homepage layout. The music streaming giant is starting to separate music and podcasts instead of presenting everything on one page. Spotify is introducing a new homepage experience with separate sections for “Music” and “Podcasts & Shows”. You will now see two separate tabs at the top of the home screen.
“This week, we’re launching a new experience that includes both Music and feeds for Podcasts and Shows. By creating these two sections, Spotify will help listeners easily navigate between the type of content they are currently searching for. The updated interface will make the experience more personal while allowing users to delve deeper into their recommendations.”
As the name suggests, Streaming Music will offer quick access to recommendations based on the subscriber’s musical taste. Spotify claims this will help listeners discover new music easily. Spotify is also adding album and playlist suggestions, as well as buttons to the new Music stream that make it easy to share, like and instantly play music.
The Podcasts and Shows section is a little different. This section does not prioritize exploration. Instead, listeners will be able to head straight to new episodes of their favorite shows.
Separating podcasts also allows Spotify to include more details about the content. Listeners will be able to read episode descriptions, save podcasts to your “Episodes” or start playing podcasts without leaving the page. In fact, we can say that Spotify gathers all options related to podcasts under one roof.
Spotify says the update is currently rolling out to Android users and will soon be available on iOS as well. But subscribers can also choose to switch to the old order. Simply press the “X” on the music or podcast stream.
