Global warming and climate change are causing water to become even more scarce. Considering the rate of outdoor water use, the authorities said that most of the water is used for landscaping, namely lawns, so they took action in Nevada, USA and presented a very interesting law proposal to the parliament.
Grasses will be replaced by trees irrigated with a drip system.
The Southern Nevada Waters Authority board has petitioned the Nevada legislature to ban the most water-used decorative grasses against global warming and climate change. Saying that grass is not drought-resistant like cactus and trees and requires 4 times more water, the board of directors stated that there is a 21 square kilometer non-functional lawn area in Nevada on which no one walks.
Stating that removing these greens, which only have a visual function, will save about 53 liters of water per person every day, the administration requested that ornamental grasses be banned. After this arrangement, which was requested last year, approximately 1219 square kilometers of grass has been collected so far. It is expected that these unnecessary grasses will be completely removed from now on, and trees and plants irrigated with the drip system will take place instead.
Congress is poised to sign legislation that will provide billions of tax incentives for clean energy and more, and for Nevada it means more than just picking the grass.
