One of the issues that has been on the agenda lately is monkeypox disease. It was stated that the disease, which is feared to be a new pandemic, is very common among gay men. The African Center for Disease Prevention and Control stated that this is not the case for the African continent.

Authorities said in a statement that the cases of monkeypox seen on the continent are not linked to gay men. It was also underlined that the reporting of cases may decrease due to such implications, and this would make the control of the disease more difficult.

Africa has been battling the disease for years

Although the monkey flower is new to the world agenda, it has existed in Africa for decades. The main reason for the transmission of this disease on the continent is known as the transmission from wild animals to humans.

The statement that homosexuality does not play a role in the fight against monkeypox in Africa, where 54 different countries are located, is important for the control of the disease. Because in many African countries, there are various punishments for homosexuality.

Ahmed Ogwell, the director of the center, said that they did not have numbers on the subject, and when asked how they reached this opinion without a number, he replied, “This is not our topic, frankly, we do not want to talk about it, because we do not want to be distracted when we have serious epidemics to deal with.”

Although monkeypox can be transmitted by close physical contact, most cases in North America and Europe have been reported in gay or bisexual men.
