Built in a short time
According to DigiTimes, the $12 billion facility will be the first of its kind in the US to mass-produce 5nm chips. Last year, TSMC president Mark Liu said the company’s Arizona facility will begin mass production of the chips in the first quarter of 2024. The main customers of the new factory are Nvidia, Qualcomm and Apple.
It’s worth noting that until then, Apple’s flagship products will be built on 3nm M3 and A17 chips, which will be manufactured at TSMC’s main factory in Taiwan. Finally, let us state that the factory was erected very quickly. Because the construction started last March and was completed in July.
