US officials promised a $10 million reward for defeating North Korean cybercriminals.

The US State Department announced that it will reward up to $10 million to anyone who provides valuable information that can be used against North Korean hackers. The amount is double the amount promised last March.

North Korean hackers have long been a nuisance for US authorities. Hackers stole millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies from organizations.

According to data from Chainalysis, North Korean cybercriminals stole $400 million worth of digital assets in 2021 alone.

According to Elliptic, a cyber gang named Lazarus stole $100 million worth of Ethereum by breaching Harmony.

The US State Department has increased the amount of rewards to combat North Korean cybercriminals.

“You may be eligible for a reward if you have knowledge of the person or individuals associated with malicious cybergroups affiliated with the North Korean government (such as Andariel, APR38, Bluenoroff, Guardians of Peace, Kimsuky, or Lazarus Group) and targeting US infrastructure.”

Coincub said a few weeks ago that North Korea has become the world’s crypto hacking superpower. It was stated that hackers operating in the country stole over $1.5 billion in digital assets.
