Today, ultrasound imaging, which enables live imaging of patients’ internal organs, can only be realized thanks to large and special equipment available in hospitals and practices. Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a device that eliminates this special equipment and puts ultrasound in the palm of your hand.
Scientists introduced their device, which you can stick to your skin like a band-aid and provide continuous imaging of internal organs for 48 hours. The device was tested on volunteers and very successful results were achieved. The device, which was worn on the volunteers, provided live imaging of the organs during their various activities such as running, cycling and sitting.

The newly developed ultrasound device, in its current design, requires connecting different devices with cables in order to convert the sound waves bouncing back from the body into visuals. According to scientists, even this state of the device offers the opportunity to be attached to the body and to observe the organs constantly, like EKG devices in hospitals.
On the other hand, the next goal of scientists will be to make ultrasound devices wireless. In this way, patients will not have to be connected to any external device with a cable and will be able to obtain these devices from their doctors or pharmacies. Scientists hope for a future where this device is placed at multiple points in the body, the devices communicate with the smartphone, and artificial intelligence algorithms can instantly convert the data into images.
