Struggling with stock problems since it was announced in 2020, PlayStation 5 finally managed to surpass the 20 million threshold. According to Sony’s fiscal annual financial results ending June 31, 2.4 million PlayStation 5 units were sold in the three-month period.

PlayStation 5 sales reach 21.7 million in two years

Sony has announced the course of PlayStation operations, including its next-generation console. According to the latest financial report, Sony’s Gaming and Network Services division suffered a noticeable decline. In addition, Sony, which sold 2.4 million PlayStation 5 in the last quarter, reached the barrier of 21.7 million.

Sony, which sold 2.3 million PS5 in the same quarter of last year and 2 million in the first quarter of this year, seems to have increased its sales figure by 100 thousand. The reason why sales are so close to each other is because PlayStation stocks are quite low.

The technology giant reported a significant loss in PlayStation Plus and other software. Total software sold for PS4 and PS5 was 47.1 million units. In the same quarter of the previous fiscal year, this figure was around 63.6 million.

It was observed that there was a slowdown in the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers. The total number of PS Plus users, which was 47.4 million in the previous quarter, decreased to 47.3 million. In the same period of last year, this figure was 46.3 million.

Sony’s Gaming and Network Services division reported sales of $4.55 billion, down 11.7 percent year-on-year. The company’s operating income decreased by 30.5 percent year-on-year to around $398 million.
