Turkey has been talking about the increase in food prices recently. Food prices, which have increased especially with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, have now become a problem for the citizens. While the government wing says that the source of these increases is chain markets, chain markets say that they can’t do anything. In fact, Murat Ülker, the founder of the supermarket chain Şok, made a statement in the past few days and was harsh on the fact that they were found guilty.

Although it is not known how far food prices will rise, especially the Ministry of Commerce is conducting some studies on this issue. In one of our content we shared with you in the past, we mentioned that the officials of the ministry were inspected on the subject. Now, there has been a development on the subject. President Erdogan made a very harsh statement targeting market chains.

“This is because chain markets”

The following statements were included in the statements made by President Erdogan:

These powerful markets, which we now call chain markets, constitute the weight of this business. They also have infrastructure. These infrastructures are also seriously feeding this work. Currently, there will be an audit process for some markets. Some penalties will come. There is such a situation. We expect sensitivity from them. Our Ministry of Commerce also continues to increase its inspections. We will continue this. We will supervise this process much more seriously, from the field to the greengrocer and the market.
