Apparently, astronauts are being warned to be careful in space so as not to get their crewmates pregnant. NASA has banned astronauts from masturbating because of concerns that their female colleagues could become pregnant due to semen floating in a zero-gravity environment.
This intriguing statement was made on the Needs a Friend podcast by US talk show host Conan O’Brien.
During the recording, Conan asked a NASA engineer if he had ever sent porn films to the International Space Station. The scientist, who was simply called Smythe, said there was never such a thing. This interesting information emerged after O’Brien questioned how sex is experienced in zero gravity. “Three female astronauts can get pregnant by the same man at the same time… (semen) will find a way,” Smythe said. “So we definitely don’t want astronauts to masturbate in space.”
NASA is preparing to examine how sexuality might work in space as it plans future Moon and Mars missions. Scholars from Concordia Uni in Montreal, Canada, say this type of research is “essential for the success of deep space missions and for building extraterrestrial settlements”.
