Social media giant TikTok, which has come to the fore from time to time due to trends, came up with a different claim today. Parents who lost their 14-year-old African American daughter Englyn Roberts in September 2020 accused TikTok of showing more violent videos to minority users than to white-skinned users.
Among the accused parties in the aforementioned criminal complaint were TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, as well as Meta and Snap. There was no statement from all three companies regarding the criminal complaint made through the Social Media Victims Law Center.
Criminal complaint about TikTok:
Englyn’s parents, who died as a result of a suicide attempt, claimed in their criminal complaint that their daughter would not have seen the harmful content that contributed to her death had it not been for TikTok’s algorithm, and thus would not have been addicted to these harmful content. The notable statements in the criminal complaint were as follows:
“TikTok’s social media product has directed and promoted more harmful and violent content to Englyn Roberts than it has shown to other white users of similar age, gender, and residence.”
TikTok, which has been accused of causing the death of children many times to date, was recently accused of causing the death of a total of 7 children. It was argued that children were influenced by the currents on the platform.
