As NFTs enter different sectors of the technology world, games are also affected by this situation. Minecraft developer Mojang has announced its decision regarding NFT and blockchain. The developer stated that NFTs are banned on Minecraft servers.
Minecraft shuts the door to NFT and blockchain
Mojang, working within Microsoft, announced the other day that blockchain technologies and NFTs are not welcome in Minecraft. Saying that they are still worried about NFTs, the developer stated that they do not want to see security problems or fraud on game servers.
It was stated that they will not allow skins and costumes in Minecraft to be sold as NFT. It has been said that players involved in buying, selling or trading NFTs should not be in Minecraft. “Minecraft in-game content cannot be used by blockchain technology to create digital assets,” the company said in a statement.
Realizing that third-party platforms are creating in-game digital items targeting Minecraft, Mojang seems to have shelved NFT and blockchain for now. According to the developer’s statement, NFT created by these third-party parties may not be reliable and may lead to a “ban” of players who purchase it.
Mojang also said that Minecraft NFTs have inflated prices. It looks like these products will have no value as blockchain technologies are banned from game servers.
In the statement from the Minecraft developer, the following statements were used: “We want to ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience.
We do not allow blockchain technologies to be integrated into our Minecraft client and server applications or used to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, personal items or skins.”
