Collaboration with AMD

As you may remember, the South Korean company started the development of SmartSSDs with AMD in 2020. The first generation SmartSSD is already used by clients including global video streaming services. It even received an award at the CES 2021 fair for offering high-level performance and energy efficiency.

What’s special about SmartSSD?

SmartSSD has built-in data processing, so unlike regular SSDs, data doesn’t have to go to the CPU, GPU, and memory as often. It performs CPU and GPU tasks more easily. As a result, the performance and energy efficiency of the entire system increases.

Sina Soltani, a senior manager in the data center and communications division at AMD, states that Samsung’s SmartSSD will increase performance and efficiency in data centers when working with Xilinx Versal Adaptive processors.

Samsung is known to work with SNIA (Storage Networking Industry) and NVM Express to make SmartSSDs workable on more devices.
