In the past studies, it was revealed that the eye’s data transfer per second was 10 million bits. Being able to obtain and process this kind of information instantly had the potential to open the door to great breakthroughs in studies to develop autonomous vehicles, at least in theory.
It will be possible to test this theory in the future, thanks to a tool developed by the University of Central Florida (UCF). The new device is produced for artificial intelligence to perform the functions of the retina in the human eye.
AI will also be able to see us (?)
As a result of the research, the creation of an eye-like structure for artificial intelligence will provide an important step. Thanks to this eye structure, artificial intelligence will be able to perceive things as we do, and even distinguish whether what it is looking at is real or an image such as a photograph or a billboard. This technology can be applied to robots and autonomous vehicles.
In the research published in the journal ACS Nano, it was also stated that the artificial intelligence eye can see in a wider range. Apart from the visible light range, this structure can also see in the ultraviolet and infrared spectrum.
Three different processes occur simultaneously
Another outstanding aspect of this new technology is that it performs three different operations simultaneously. This makes the new method unique for now. Under normal conditions, artificial intelligence performs data processing, storage and detection separately, while the artificial intelligence eye performs these three operations simultaneously.
According to the researchers, the new technology is much faster than existing ones and can be fit into a chip of only 2.5 centimeters. In what areas do you think this technology will be used in the future?
