Apple MacBook customers who have had to replace their butterfly keyboard one or more times will receive payment from Apple. Looking at the number of users affected by this bug, it turns out that Apple will pay a total penalty of around $50 million. Devices identified as problematic are MacBooks, MacBook Airs, and MacBook Pros sold between 2015 and 2019.

Users who have had to replace their keyboard more than once will get refunds between $300 and $395. Those who replace their keyboard once will get $125, and those who only have to replace one key will get $50.

Unfortunately, Apple’s decision only applies to seven US states. To qualify for a refund, users must have their keyboard replaced at an Apple Store or authorized repair center.

Keyboards were originally developed to enable thinner laptops, but they posed a lot of trouble in use. Apple admitted there was a problem with these keyboards in 2019, apologized and allowed customers to have their keyboards repaired for free.
