The climate crisis, which we have been feeling concretely in every aspect of our lives, especially in recent years, of course puts future generations at risk. We have already seen the devastating effects of climate change, which has begun to struggle against the crisis, where alarms are sounding more and more with each passing day, with severe storms, extreme heat, cold and precipitation. This time, scientists brought the subject back to future generations.
A new study published yesterday in the journal Science showed that future generations will be exposed to many times more ecological disasters and extreme weather conditions than today. This research once again revealed that urgent and important steps should be taken for the future as soon as possible.
“Those under 40 will live a life like never before”
Speaking to NBC News, climate scientist Wim Thiery, who led the research published in the journal Science, explained that the damage has already been done. Thiery stated that each generation will see more severe weather and events than the previous generation, warning today’s generation as follows:
“We discovered today that anyone under the age of 40 will live an unprecedented life in terms of lifetime exposure to heat waves, drought and floods. This will be true even in the most moderate scenarios. ”
Children born in 2021 will live in a much worse Earth in the future:
In their study, Thiery and colleagues determined that children born this year will face seven times as many heat waves, twice as many wildfires and nearly three times as many droughts than their grandparents. On the other hand, scientists added that these situations may still get worse than predicted.
