The change of Instagram, one of the biggest social media platforms of today, continues. On the platform, it now offered a paid subscription system for content producers. Some new features that will come with this system may upset ordinary users.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced on Twitter that Instagram content producers can hide their posts and reels behind a paywall. In addition, special chat rooms for subscribers or direct chat will be among the new features of the platform.

Subscriptions are a great way for producers to generate predictable revenue & for fans to receive exclusive content from the producers they love.

Regular users will not see subscriber-only content. In addition, subscribers will see a purple badge and a crown symbol on their exclusive reels and photos. These posts will be available on the creator’s Instagram page on a separate page called Subscriber Home.

Creators will also be able to chat directly with their subscribers. Up to 30 people will be able to participate in these chats and the chats will automatically end after 24 hours.

Currently not available to all creators

Instagram started testing this feature with 10 US-based content producers, and later made it available to thousands of content producers. Monthly membership fees on the platform range from 99 cents to $99.

Mark Zuckerberg previously announced that content producers on Facebook or Instagram will not make any cuts from the money they earn from subscribers until 2024.
