Bill Gates, the founder of the US-based technology giant Microsoft, announced that he made an important decision regarding the charity he founded on behalf of himself and his ex-wife Melinda Gates. Bill Gates, one of the richest names in the world, announced that he will donate another $ 20 billion to the “Gates Foundation”.
Bill Gates, who made a statement as “My future plan is to give all my wealth except what I spend on myself and my family to the foundation…”, also pleased the Gates Foundation with this move. In the statements made by the institution, it was stated that they would be able to distribute more money with income increases. In fact, Bill Gates says that by 2026, the foundation will be able to raise $9 billion in annual funding.
Why will Bill Gates give another $20 billion to the foundation he founded?
Making some statements on his original Twitter account, Gates explained why he made such a decision:
“Several major global setbacks over the past few years have discouraged many people. The epidemic is one of the greatest failures in history. The Ukraine war is a colossal tragedy for the entire world. The damage from climate change is worse than most models predict. The United States, gender equality and women “He’s taken a big step back for his health. But I’m still optimistic. These setbacks happen in the context of two decades of historical progress, and I believe it’s possible to reduce the damage and get back to the progress the world has made.”
Melinda and I started the Gates Foundation in 2000 because we believed that every person should have a chance to live a healthy and productive life. This vision remains the same, but the great crises of our time require all of us to do more. With the support and guidance of our Board, we plan to increase our spending, which is approximately 6 billion dollars a year today, to 9 billion dollars a year until 2026. I’m transferring $20 billion to the foundation this month to enable this spending increase. I am proud of the foundation’s role in helping solve big problems such as preventing pandemics, reducing childhood deaths, eradicating diseases, improving food security and climate adaptation, achieving gender equality and improving educational outcomes.”
In the future, I plan to give almost all of my wealth to the foundation. Eventually, I’m going to go down the list of the richest people in the world. I have an obligation to return my resources to society in a way that has the greatest impact to reduce suffering and improve lives. And I hope others in positions of great wealth and privilege will come forward at this time.”
Thanks to Warren Buffett:
Bill Gates also thanked Warren Buffett, known as his close friend, in his Twitter posts. Stating that half of the Gates Foundation’s capital is Buffett’s donations, Bill Gates said:
“Even though the Foundation bears our names, basically half of our resources came from Warren Buffett. His incredible generosity is a big reason why the foundation can be so ambitious. I can never express how much I appreciate his friendship and guidance.”
