According to The New York Times, Apple has terminated its consulting agreement with its former chief designer, Jony Ive. The parties agreed not to extend the contract during their meeting. Thus, the three-year cooperation ended.
Jony Ive announced on June 27, 2019 that he was leaving Apple, where he served for 27 years. The experienced name, who worked as the chief designer for most of his career in the Cupertino company, played an important role in the realization of products such as iPod, iPhone, iMac and iPad.
Jony Ive, one of the world’s most respected industrial designers, announced the day he left Apple that he would continue to work with Apple through his new design firm LoveFrom. The $100 million contract signed between the two companies made Apple the main customer of LoveFrom.
Apple was not allowed to work on competing projects
Although the reason for the separation is not known exactly, it is stated that some Apple executives are uncomfortable with Ive’s design firm transferring a designer from the Cupertino company. It should also be noted that the money paid to the famous designer has become questionable within the company.
During the collaboration, LoveFrom was not allowed to work on projects considered to be Apple’s competitors. Jony Ive wanted more freedom in choosing clients. All these reasons brought the cooperation between Jony Ive and Apple to an end. LoveFrom continues to work with companies like Ferrari and Airbnb.
