September 27 was a critical day for Turkey. Because President Erdoğan gathered his team and held a cabinet meeting. Important decisions regarding the coronavirus epidemic were expected to be taken at this meeting, but it was not quite like this. At least nothing happened outside of what we know. One of the issues that the citizens were most curious about was a possible new decision to be taken regarding education.

The fact that face-to-face training was started made the pandemic process even more difficult. As such, it was a matter of curiosity what President Erdogan would say about the issue. When we look at the statements made by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we can easily say that face-to-face education will continue.

The highlights of the statement are:

President Erdogan used the following statements about face-to-face education:

“Especially during the epidemic, we have seen that distance education activities by taking advantage of the possibilities of technology cannot replace face-to-face education. For this reason, we have put forward a determined stance that educational institutions at all levels continue their activities face-to-face. One in 71 thousand 320 public and private schools across the country. Education and training activities continue with a million 172 thousand teachers and more than 17 million 436 thousand students. After a 1.5-year hiatus, of course, there were minor setbacks, but these were quickly resolved by our relevant institutions.

In order to carry out face-to-face education in our schools in a healthy way, we have delivered an allowance of 722 million for this period. In order to avoid any disruptions in cleaning, we increased the current 71 thousand cleaning personnel to 113 thousand with 42 thousand additions. The fact that almost all of our students attend classes shows that our children miss school. While the vaccination rate of our teachers is increasing, we invite our parents and students who are in line to be vaccinated for the continuation of face-to-face education without interruption.

As of today, many of our universities have started their education activities in accordance with the academic calendar they announced beforehand. Hopefully, next week, we will hold a joint academic year opening ceremony at our Kulliye, covering all of our universities. “
