Being angry in case of hunger is a phenomenon accepted by the people all over the world. However, this relationship between hunger and irritability has not been fully included in the literature by the scientific world until now. A new study, the results of which were published today, has finally officially shown that we can lose ourselves when we are hungry.
In the 21-day study with the participation of 64 adults in Europe, the participants recorded their feelings and hunger pangs five times a day via a mobile application. Examining the records, the scientists found that hunger can lead to high levels of anger and irritability. Moreover, this situation did not change much according to the gender, age, body mass index and diet of the person.
Anger and irritability increase by almost half:
In a total of 9,142 data points presented by study participants, hunger caused a 48% increase in anger and a 56% increase in irritability, while reducing the enjoyment in one’s life by 44%. Although the study was based on subjective reports from participants, the strength of the link was surprising, however, according to the team.
The link between hunger and irritability has also been seen in other members of the animal kingdom. While the connection between these two cannot be explained completely scientifically, studies continue in the scientific world to understand the clues of the connection from biology, personality and our environment.
