The first MacBook Pro models with Touch Bar debuted in October 2016 as part of the all-new MacBook Pro design. The first MacBook Pro Touch Bar model, which we remember with a thinner, lighter chassis, the much criticized butterfly keyboard, Touch ID, larger trackpad and the removal of all ports except the Thunderbolt port and headphone jack, is now among Apple’s classic products.

Apple classic products list

Apple has removed the Touch Bar from its latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, but it’s still available on the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Apple devices to be included in the list of classic products as of July 31 are as follows:

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
  • MacBook Air (13-inch, early 2015)
  • MacBook (12-inch, early 2016)
  • iMac (21.5-inch, late 2015)
  • iMac (27-inch, Retina 5K, late 2015)
  • iPad Pro (9.7 inch, WiFi)
  • iPad Pro (9.7 inch, WiFi + Cellular)

Which Apple products make this list?

Apple includes products that it ended sales distribution for more than 5 years, less than 7 years ago, among its classic products. Mac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, Beats and Apple Watch can be among the classic products. The first MacBook Pro models with Touch Bar were discontinued in June 2017.

Until mid-2018, classic products are not eligible for Apple-approved repairs, but Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers can add and repair devices for up to two years, depending on parts availability.

Discontinued products

The first iPad mini, which went on sale in 2012, will also be added to the list of discontinued products on July 31. Apple considers products for which it ended sales distribution more than 7 years ago as discontinued. Discontinued devices are not eligible for Apple repairs, except where permitted by law.
