A New Type of Dinosaur Discovered As Long as a 3.5-Story Building

In Argentina, scientists believe they have discovered a dinosaur with very interesting features. According to researchers, this dinosaur is the size of a 3.5-story building, with a huge head and tiny arms for its size.

After the dinosaurs were recognized by everyone in Jurassic Park, the dinosaur species named Tyrannosaurus Rex and its short arms were often the subject of jokes.

If the scientists who continue their research in Argentina are right, a dinosaur species with even more disproportionate arms than the T-Rex may have been discovered.

Big head, tiny arms:

Dinosaur remains belonging to a previously undiscovered dinosaur species were unearthed in the Northern Patagonia region, according to scientists who published an article in the journal Current Biology. Although the dinosaur is about 11 meters tall, its arms are only 60 cm long, that is, the size of an average human arm. The dinosaur’s skull is 1.2 meters.

Scientists say that this dinosaur, called Meraxes gigas, is carnivorous, according to researchers, and that small arms give this giant an advantage in survival. Juan Canale, who wrote the article, said, “I think these proportionally small arms have a kind of function. Large muscle entrances and fully developed chest straps are seen in the skeleton, so there were strong muscles in the arms.”

The function of the arms is different:

According to scientists, who say that the arms, which are half the size of the skull, could not reach the mouth of the dinosaur, this arm structure has different functions. Small but strong arms allow the dinosaur to start tearing it apart with its claws, hold onto its partner during mating, and get support to get up when they fall.

These four-ton reptiles are thought to have lived 90-100 million years ago. Work continues on the dinosaur, which takes its name from one of the dragons in Game of Thrones. However, Meraxes Gigas is already included in the shark-toothed lizard family.
