With the Trump administration, the USA, which has decided to impose an embargo on companies such as Huawei and ZTE, is now planning to stop the shipments of the Netherlands-based semiconductor manufacturer ASML to China.
Technology embargoes on the rise
ASML, the new target of the US government, produces Lithography tools that are used in many fields such as automobiles, mobile phones, computers, and robots today. The USA, which previously prevented ASML from selling extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography devices to Chinese companies, is now planning to cut off the supply of deep ultraviolet (DUV) instruments from a generation ago.
However, it is thought that the new decision, which came to the agenda during the visit of US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves to the Netherlands and Belgium in late May and early June, may have a great impact on China’s gaining its own semiconductor independence.
In addition, ASML, which earns 16 percent of its revenues from China shipments, said, “No decision has been made yet and we do not want to speculate or comment on the rumors.”
