The leader Samsung is also getting its share from the declines in the smartphone market. In the second quarter of the year, Samsung’s smartphone sales fell, however, it was able to balance it with chip sales.
Samsung increases profits
Analyzing the second quarter performance, experts estimate that Samsung sold around 61 million smartphones. It’s down around 16 percent compared to the same period last year, and operating profit is expected to be around $2 billion.
However, the chip division managed to achieve an operating profit of around $7.5 billion, up 42%. It is stated that DRAM shipments increased by 9 percent and NAND demand increased by around 2 percent.
Samsung, whose display division remained relatively weak, is estimated to have sold $58.4 billion in the second quarter, up 20 percent. Operating profit will rise 15.6 percent to around $11 billion.
