We all know how frustrating it is when we have to text someone while it’s raining. This wasn’t a problem when push-button phones were still in vogue, but when salty rain water touches the touchscreens of smartphones, the screen ‘goes nuts’ and never detects that where you’re touching it.

It looks like Apple is aiming to reverse that situation with iPhones coming next year or perhaps later. According to the latest news, Apple has patented a screen that you can use underwater.

‘Wet Mode: On’: You will no longer have tantrums when using a phone in the rain

Apple has patented a touchscreen that can work smoothly even when in contact with water. The company even plans to go a little further by integrating a humidity sensor that can measure the amount of water on the touchpad. Thanks to this detector, the screen will be able to change the way it perceives interaction with the user.

In the drawing we shared with you above, there is a scene where a person uses his iPhone at sea. As can be seen from the patent, when the touchpad comes into contact with water, the phone will recognize this and activate the ‘Wet Mode’.

It is not yet clear whether this project will actually be successful and which electronic devices will benefit from it, but the iPhone is undoubtedly the most obvious candidate. Of course, the Apple Watch is also a sensible option. What are you thinking? Please do not forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
