The 2022 F1 British Grand Prix started with all the excitement and while it was going on, there was a huge accident and the race was stopped with a red flag. Guanyu Zhou, the driver of Alfa Romeo, luckily managed to avoid the crash, including Mercedes driver George Russell and Scuderia AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly.

Guanyu Zhou’s red flag accident
Zhou turned upside down before hitting the barriers in the Abbey. The incident occurred after Gasly’s car got stuck between Zhou and Russell, which threw Russell into the side of Zhou, who was driving at high speed in Turn 1. Russell rushed to the scene of the accident to help Zhou, whose car rolled over the rubber barriers and rolled into the fence.
Alfa Romeo team principal Frederic Vasseur said Zhou had been conscious since the crash. Zhou was ejected from his car on a stretcher, but he was able to move and was fine. The FIA confirmed that Zhou was taken to the medical center by emergency teams. Alfa Romeo confirmed that he was conscious on arrival and there were no major injuries.
After the accident, Russell shared on social media, “The most important thing is that Zhou is important. “It was a frightening accident and we were able to get through it thanks to the quick response of the officials,” he said.
So what is the Halo system that saved Zhou’s life?
The Halo system is a protection system that was first introduced in 2016 and is designed to protect the racing driver. Consisting of a curved bar, this structure is located in the car where the pilot’s head coincides and protects the pilot’s head in case the vehicle turns over.
