TikTok has been the focus of great criticism lately. Finally, with the leak of the data of American users, the reputation of the video sharing service has become very controversial. Brendan Carr, head of the US Federal Communications Commission FCC, also sent a message to Apple and Google to ban TikTok from their platforms. Allegedly, the service may be reporting vital data to Beijing.
Carr states that 19 million people downloaded TikTok in the first quarter of 2022 in the USA, and says that the service has the data of a large part of the US population: “TikTok poses an unacceptable security risk, because the Beijing administration has the opportunity to access vital data without any hindrance. owner.” In parallel, Google and Apple were asked to remove the TikTok application from their application markets.
Carr also says that TikTok is more than just a video sharing site. It claims that the app is actually “a comprehensive spying app used to collect personal data.” He also underlines that TikTok is also banned in India and the US Army.
Although TikTok has moved its data to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure hosted in the USA, Carr states that this is insufficient because the Beijing Government still has the right to access the data.
Apple and Google have not yet made a statement on the subject.
