Global inflation problems, Russia-Ukraine tension and lockdowns in China continue to affect the smartphone industry. Publishing a new market research on global smartphone sales, Counterpoint Research reported that the figures fell below 100 million for the first time since 2020.
A decrease of up to 10 percent
Although new devices are being introduced today, it seems that users’ demand for smartphones is starting to decline. According to the shared chart, as of May 2022, there was a decrease of 4 percent on a monthly basis and 10 percent on an annual basis in smartphone sales.
In addition, Counterpoint Research, which says that May is the second month in a row compared to the previous month, says that sales fell to 96 million. However, while market losses are expected to continue throughout the summer period, the market is expected to recover in the second half of the year due to the improved situation in China and the improvements in the supply-demand balance in the technology supply chain.
