A court in Russia fined Airbnb, Twitch and Pinterest. The reason for the decision was cited as violating the country’s personal data protection laws, as all three companies do not store the data of users in Russia within the country.

If the violation continues, the penalties will continue.

Russia first introduced data localization laws in 2014 that required technology companies to store the data of Russian users in the country. Roskomnadzor, the country’s state supervisory authority for internet and telecommunications, also filed administrative lawsuits against all three companies last May.

A court in Moscow ruled that existing law was violated and fined Airbnb, Twitch and Pinterest 2 million rubles each (about $37,700).

The court will be able to repeat the sentence as long as the violation continues. After the sentence, there has been no statement from all three companies yet.
