TikTok, which has achieved a big break in recent years, has undoubtedly become one of the largest social media platforms in the world. The platform, which has close to 1.5 billion users, is also the focus of criticism from time to time. So much so that all these effects put TikTok in danger of removing it from all stores.
FCC official to Apple and Google: “Delete TikTok from your store”
An important request came to Apple and Google from the Federal Communications Board (FCC) in America. FCC official Brendan Carr made an open call to these companies in a two-page open letter. Carr asked companies to remove TikTok from the App Store and Google Play. The FCC has given until July 8 to return to this letter.
There are also some reasons in the letter in which he requested to remove TikTok. According to the FCC, TikTok is not really a video sharing app. So much so that the letter argues that the platform is an “advanced surveillance tool” for the Chinese government. On the other hand, in the long-running letter, the request for removal was conveyed with the following statements.
It is clear that TikTok poses an unacceptable national security risk as its extensive data collection combined with Beijing’s seemingly uncontrolled access to this sensitive data. Therefore, I request you to apply the plain text of your app store policies to TikTok and remove it from your app stores for not complying with these terms.
Although it is thought that TikTok user data in the USA cannot be accessed by employees in China, a privacy claim has stirred things up in the past weeks. The platform, on the other hand, had access to data in the US from September 2021 to January 2022. It seems that this demand could escalate anger between the US and China.
