While HTC’s smartphone division hasn’t launched a competitive high-end device in years, it doesn’t seem to have given up yet. HTC, which has been talking about offering a phone equipped with metaverse supported features for a while, has officially introduced this phone: HTC Desire 22 Pro, which is the continuation of HTC Desire 21 Pro presented last year. The device is listed for the UK at a price of £399 and will go on sale on August 1.
The phone’s metaverse functionality is said to have several different aspects. Primarily, it’s designed to be the “perfect companion” for HTC’s recently announced Vive Flow VR headset, and will be used to access HTC’s metaverse version, Viverse. It’s not entirely clear what the Desire 22 Pro offers that other options don’t have, as the hood is designed to work with any Android phone.
HTC’s Taiwan website has announced that the phone includes a digital wallet to manage crypto assets and comes with a free NFT, so we can say that it will also have some functions for NFT. However, these features may vary by market, as the marketing materials on the European site do not contain similar language.
When we look at the hardware, we can say that the features of the Desire 22 Pro are completely medium. The 6.6-inch 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate also hosts a screen hole in the upper left that contains a 32-megapixel selfie camera. On the back is a triple-lens setup consisting of a 64-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.
Looking at the hardware specifications, we see a Snapdragon 695 processor with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a 4,520mAh battery. Wireless and reverse wireless charging are also supported. The device runs Android 12 and has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.
The Desire 22 Pro is available in black or gold.
