Fake accounts have become a part of Facebook and similar social media platforms. A report by Wired revealed that social media companies even generate revenue from these accounts opened for disinformation, spam or propaganda purposes.
It turns out that Meta has made more than $30.3 million from fake Facebook accounts. It is stated that this income, which is stated to be obtained between July 2018 and April 2022, is directly related to the advertisements published by the fake account networks on the platform.
Russia in first place
Russia makes up the majority of ads coming from networks that Meta defines as CIB. Company manager Margarita Franklin confirmed that the company did not refund the advertising money, even though the accounts in question were closed when such an action was detected.
