Mercury, the smallest planet in the Solar System, had a great mystery as it could not be imaged in detail until now due to its location. However, this veil of secrecy is now being lifted thanks to the BepiColombo spacecraft.
Mercury, which is the closest planet to the Sun, also shows the feature of being the fastest planet in our Solar System. The planet, which completes its orbit around the sun in just 88 days, thus completes a year in only 88 days according to our time. So 4 years on Mercury is approximately equal to 1 year on Earth.
Space exploration vehicle BepiColombo has succeeded in passing a new milestone in its space mission by closely viewing Mercury. BepiColombo, who had the opportunity to get very close to the planet this time in its second flight around Mercury, managed to picture the crater-filled surface of Mercury in the photo you can see just below.
This is not the first success of BepiColombo, a joint project of the European Space Agency and Japanese space agency JAXA. The Mercury photo taken by BepiColombo, who sent stunning photos from Venus at the end of 2020, has been analyzed in detail by researchers here as well.
