The Microsoft scandal, starring the privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo, continues to remain on the agenda. DuckDuckGo, a company focused on security and privacy, is a name that has gained market share by saying that it does not monitor users’ searches and behavior, and will not use this data for customized advertisements. However, it is a fact that he lost some of his reputation after the news that he had a collusion with Microsoft.
Naturally, this situation attracts the reaction of its competitors. Brave CEO Brendan Eich accused his opponent of not telling the truth in his defense, saying DuckDuckGo allows Microsoft trackers to bypass third-party cookie blocking via added URL parameters. DuckDuckGo tried to defend its cand by saying that this agreement is only valid for the mobile browser and has nothing to do with the search engine.
Eich’s statement draws attention to the following words: “Viewers are trying to circumvent cookie blocking by adding identifiers to URL query parameters to identify you between sites. I’m sure DuckDuckGo knows all this very well. For example, DuckDuckGo, Google’s gclid and Facebook’s fbclid parameters. But it doesn’t do the same for Microsoft’s msclkid parameter.”
