Smartphone sales, which make up a large part of the world’s technology shopping, have been losing momentum lately. Counterpoint’s latest research shows that smartphone sales in Europe have dropped drastically.
Smartphone sales in Europe haven’t been this bad since 2013
Counterpoint’s new research shows smartphone sales in the European market in the first half of 2022. Samsung is at the head of the smartphone market, which saw a 12% decrease in sales compared to the first quarter of last year, with a rate of 35%. Samsung lost 16% sales compared to last year, while Apple, second on the list, lost 6% sales. Stating that only 49 million smartphones were sold in total, Counterpoint added that sales have not been this low since 2013.
Xiaomi lost 36% market share while Oppo lost 8% market share. Of the companies in the top 5, only realme increased its market share and managed to make up 4% of the smartphones sold in the first quarter of 2022. Let’s see if the end of the global chip crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic will cause a change in smartphone sales.
