The FBI has announced that LinkedIn is being used in crypto fraudulent activities.

According to CNB news, the FBI and LinkedIn are working together to combat crypto fraudsters on the site.

Fraudsters pose a “significant threat” to LinkedIn and its users, according to Sean Ragan, the FBI’s special agent in charge of the San Francisco, Sacramento and California field offices.

Scammers often try to gain the trust of users with a fake profile and convince them to invest with the promise of high returns. After that, users voluntarily transfer their funds to fraudsters.

A group of victims said their losses were between $200,000 and $1.6 million, according to CNBC.

In a statement, LinkedIn acknowledged that there has been an increase in the number of scams on the platform recently.

“We work every day to keep our members safe. This includes investing in defense mechanisms to detect fake accounts, misinformation and suspicious transactions.”

The company said it removed more than 32 million fake accounts from the platform in 2021.
