According to a report published in Science and Technology Daily, a state-sponsored media outlet in China, researchers have recorded some radio signals that appear to be evidence of extraterrestrial technology. Is an advanced alien civilization finally trying to communicate with Earth? Most likely not, as the news was removed from the website shortly after it was published in Science and Technology Daily. But even the fact that the news has been published is a situation that increases the mystery of the work.

According to the Science and Technology Daily article reloaded on WeChat, the reported observations came from the 500-metre Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) in China, nicknamed the “Eye Looking at the Sky.” The telescope has a 500-metre dish, and is the world’s largest radio telescope.

It is not known what the captured signals were, but it is likely a natural phenomenon or interference from Earth. The SETI initiative is very useful for examining such signals and identifying their source. SETI, a worldwide scientific collaboration, unfortunately does not have access to these data from China.

This is not the first time astronomers have encountered unexplained radio signals. Such a mysterious signal from Proxima Centauri was discovered in 2019. The signal, which took hours, was captured with a telescope at the CSIRO Parkes Observatory in Australia. Two years later, astronomers determined that the signal originated from Earth.

In 2018, Canadian researchers captured a fast radio burst, possibly an emission from a certain type of neutron star. A signal captured in 2015 was found to come from a microwave oven.
