Front cameras on smartphones are often low-spec, and the iPhone is no exception, as Apple has not significantly upgraded its selfie cameras since the iPhone 11. But now a new big upgrade may be waiting for us.
Apple plans to add autofocus to the front camera in the iPhone 14 series, as Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with a good track record of Apple information, wrote on Medium.
Actually, this is not the first time the analyst has voiced this information. But the fact that he has now reiterated shows that he is now sure of it. This seems highly probable as this information has been heard from other sources before.
Kuo also points out that autofocus isn’t the only upgrade the selfie camera can get, claiming that Apple will use a six-element lens instead of the five-element lens in the iPhone 13 lens. This description refers to the number of individual pieces of glass inside the lens, and while we can say that more is not always better, in this case it probably is.
So, if this information is correct, it seems likely that the selfie camera on the iPhone 14 and its siblings will offer significantly improved performance over previous iPhones.
