Kojima Productions’ next big game project will arrive exclusively for Xbox. Hideo Kojima’s development team aims to develop a game that will somehow make heavy use of cloud technology by partnering with Xbox Game Studios.

Hideo Kojima announced the project in the Xbox Bethesda announcements and confirmed that the game is in the very early stages of development, although there is currently no name or release date attached to the game.

However, it seems that a non-trivial portion of Kojima fans weren’t all that excited by the announcement. A viral tweet by Jon Cartwright sparked a Change.org petition to cancel Kojima’s Xbox exclusive game.

The petition’s description states that “Kojima has betrayed his loyal fans” and adds that he is “blind with greed.” But the text actually ends with a point we can empathize with: “Not everyone has good enough internet to stream games. Not everyone has enough money to buy a new console or build a new PC.”

We know almost nothing about Kojima’s next project, apart from the narratives summarized at this time. Partnering with Xbox Game Studios and using cloud-based technologies to deliver “a never-before-seen concept” constitutes all of our knowledge.

The concept seems to be at least slightly more ambitious than Death Stranding’s simple but robust online features that allow players to build structures and stations to help other players. That game was also exclusive to the PS5 and PS4 consoles, and later came to PC as well.

We can easily say that the transition from PlayStation to Xbox will make some players unhappy. But we can be almost certain that Xbox consoles and Microsoft’s powerful Azure servers will better provide the infrastructure needed for this ambitious project that Kojima Productions is currently working on.

Following the announcement, Kojima Productions’ official Twitter account tweeted that the developer still “has a very good partnership with PlayStation.” Even if Kojima’s next project has been announced to be exclusive to Xbox, it probably won’t end his team’s presence on PlayStation platforms.
