Following the Raptor Lake architecture that will be released later this year, the expected Meteor Lake architecture will come with significant performance increases. Intel showcased the details of the processor at a symposium this week.

What will Intel Meteor Lake offer?

Intel Meteor Lake architecture represents the transition from 10nm, that is Intel 7 node, to 7nm, that is, Intel 4 node. There is a claim of 20 percent performance increase only as a transition. Performance cores are called Redwood Cove, while efficiency cores are called Crestmont.

The processor on display belongs to the Meteor Lake P mobile series. The chipset, which contains 6 performance and 8 efficiency cores, consists of 4 layers. Next to the processor layer, there is the layer with the graphics, the layer with the input-output units and the layer with the controllers. Apart from the core and graphics unit, other layers are likely to have more mature production processes.

20MB of Level 3 cache, 2.5MB per core, 2MB of Level 2 cache per performance core, and a total of 8MB of Level 2 cache for two sets of efficiency cores. Cache capacities will increase significantly in the Meteor Lake architecture, as in the Raptor Lake architecture. Intel Meteor Lake will meet with the consumer in the second half of next year at the earliest.
