Batteries have become an indispensable object in every aspect of our lives, from smartphones to watches and even automobiles. However, batteries, which have such an important place in our lives, sometimes do not work in very cold and very hot weather, and sometimes these extreme hot and cold temperatures can seriously shorten the life of the battery.

Wanting to solve this problem, a team of chemical engineers and scientists in China developed a battery that can operate at very low temperatures, even below zero.

So how is it different from a normal battery?

Since this battery can work smoothly even at extremely low temperatures compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries, many products from smartphones used in cold regions to cars can now operate without any problems. These batteries, which work even at 35 degrees, are designed in a slightly different structure compared to ordinary batteries.

Normally found in batteries, the graphite is one of the most important parts for the functional operation of the battery. But engineers replaced the graphite inside the batteries with cobalt, allowing the batteries to last much longer and withstand much lower temperatures. Automobile batteries produced with new generation batteries will have 30% more range in cold weather.

Although these new batteries have been produced and tested in the size of a watch battery for now, engineers and scientists have announced that they will be experimenting with larger batteries very soon.
